Introduction

Healthcare access for university students remains a critical determinant of academic success and long-term well-being. The integration of digital health interventions (DHIs) has emerged as a transformative strategy, particularly in regions facing infrastructure disruption or conflict [1]. Digital tools facilitate remote consultations and information dissemination, effectively bridging gaps created by geographical and logistical barriers [2].

The full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 drastically altered the landscape of healthcare delivery, disconnecting numerous individuals from traditional medical services [1]. University students, as a mobile and tech-literate demographic, are uniquely positioned to benefit from digital health services. However, the efficacy of these systems depends on robust cybersecurity, user trust, and the alignment of technological capabilities with existing healthcare infrastructure [5].

This study aims to propose a theoretical framework for digital health services and evaluate their role in enhancing student healthcare access in Ukraine. By utilizing a case study approach, the research identifies key lifecycle stages of DHI implementation, from conceptualization to maintenance [1]. The findings will contribute to the development of resilient, sustainable digital health ecosystems that prioritize equitable access and service continuity during times of crisis.

Digital Health Implementation in Conflict-Affected Settings: The Ukrainian Context

The structural disruption of traditional healthcare networks in crisis-affected environments necessitates a theoretical and practical shift toward agile digital platforms. In their theoretical assessment of healthcare systems, scholars underline that security, systemic resilience, and sustainability constitute indispensable pillars for maintaining data integrity and user trust in digital environments [1]. When applied to higher education systems, this conceptual model aligns with empirical findings from institutional e-health deployments, where university staff identified tool adaptation and digital readiness as pivotal elements for delivering uninterrupted support to student bodies experiencing acute disruptions [2]. However, translating these structural frameworks into practice within conflict-affected settings requires addressing severe continuity challenges. The Ukrainian operational context illustrates that digital health interventions succeed not merely through static institutional compliance, but through adaptive platforms capable of re-establishing contact and maintaining care pathways for displaced and vulnerable populations [3]. While the general theoretical framework prioritizes long-term systemic sustainability and formal security controls [1], practical crisis response highlights the primacy of immediate functional accessibility, user re-engagement, and cross-channel delivery [3]. Consequently, effective implementation for university students in Ukraine requires harmonizing institutional safety parameters with resilient, user-centered digital access points that bridge physical displacement and service fragmentation.
