While macro-level demographic projections provide baseline trajectories of student cohorts and impending retirements, they fail to explain differentiated retention patterns across distinct institutional settings and disciplines. As established through segmented labor market theory, teacher mobility and attrition operate within non-monolithic labor segments that exhibit diverging turnover rates and incentives (Brunner et al., 2019). Furthermore, macro-level policy interventions that treat educator labor pools as homogenous fail to resolve subject-specific deficits, particularly because external market opportunities continuously siphon specialized personnel away from public secondary education (Levin, 1988). A critical research gap persists regarding how macro-demographic forecasting models can systematically integrate micro-level segmented labor dynamics within centralized educational governance frameworks. In the context of Austrian secondary schools, existing forecasting approaches predominantly rely on aggregate administrative headcounts, obscuring localized disparities between general and vocational tracks as well as STEM-specific attrition corridors. Consequently, the present inquiry faces distinct analytical limitations: secondary dataset structures restrict the longitudinal tracking of non-pecuniary working conditions and cross-regional mobility decisions, thereby limiting the precision of long-term predictive models. Addressing these systemic constraints requires future predictive frameworks to combine demographic replacement algorithms with segmented labor market parameters to capture structural workforce attrition accurately.
